Spun…

Here’s the fine black shetland (chain plied). I should have photographed it on a lighter background. I don’t feel like photographing it again because I’ve got a lot of other things goin’ on. So it’ll have to do. When I knit it into something I will take a better photo - promise.

Fine Black Shetland - Chain Plied

This is Mint Choc Hip - a blended merino wool roving from fibrespacesupplies Etsy Shop:

And just for kicks, here’s a photo from a few weeks ago of my first try at plying yarn (it’s natural merino and chocolate merino/rambouillet):

How could I have forgotten…

to post about Mina’s birthday? It was July 1st. She’s nine. NINE y’all.
Where in the heck did NINE years go?? Next year she starts the double digits!

Fine Black Shetland

I have enough roving for one more bobbin. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be leaving them as singles, or if I’ll try chain plying. Hmmm…

Horses

The girls and I went horseback riding.
I’m thinking we’re going to need a bigger yard
’cause now we all want horses.

Actually, we’ve been praying about selling this house
and buying a bigger piece of property for a while.

Now I’m sure of it. We need a small farm.
You know, for the horses
and the sheep
and maybe a cow
and lets not forget the chickens
and a very large vegetable garden of course
and blueberry bushes
and an apple tree.

I have big dreams.

I miss…

late nights
playing my guitar
and writing
poetry
songs
music
lyrics.
Eleven years ago
I let people
who I thought were my closet friends
crush the desires of my heart.
I lost the voice I had found.
I want to find it again.

I’m a tryin’…

…to get the hang of this spinning wheel! It’s a little different than spindling. I feel like I have more control when I’m spinning on a spindle as opposed to the wheel. I think after a few more hours days of practice I’ll have better control on the wheel.

Here’s a couple of shots of what I’ve done so far:

I also started some socks:

These photos were taken with my new Casio EX-Z1080. I wanted a small point & shoot that I could keep in my purse (and therefore always have it with me) that took decent photos and good video clips. It has a sensor size of 1/1.75″ so the pictures are pretty good, and the video is UHQ @ 25fps, so pretty good video clips too (great when you have kids and want to catch those spontaneous cute moments at the park/library/store etc.) And, it’s not much bigger than a cell phone, so very portable!

Look what I got!!

The UPS man dropped this off yesterday:

Putting her together was easy peasy. I didn’t have much time to play though, Daniel woke up from his nap and wanted to play with it as much as I did. Didn’t have time today either, hopefully tonight.

A photo update…

Hannah knits! All my girls know how to knit now. When the boys are old enough, I’ll teach them too.

The finished Prayer Shawl for my sister (I know it’s a crummy picture - the shawl is layed out on my lumpy bed, and I’ve already shipped it to her, so I can’t take another picture):

Daniel wearing the finished natural shorts I recently knit:

I recently purchased ten skeins of Rowan Felted Tweed (141 Whisper) - it’s slated for Tangled Yoke Cardigan (Rav link):

And, here’s a somewhat decent photo of all of my children together (happens so rarely!):

Just keep knitting…

Here’s some shots of my progress on Ardessie:

I’ll be weaving in the ends when each section is done so there aren’t millions to weave in when finishing:

A pair of shorties for Daniel:

And, most importantly, a prayer shawl for my sister (she’s going through some trying times):

For those who don’t know what a prayer shawl is, here is a snippet from The Prayer Shawl Ministry that I’ve paraphrased: “a prayer shawl embodies thoughts and prayers for the receiver. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawl is passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart.” One of my fondest childhood memories: my mother used to have a brown crocheted shawl, and when we were sick, or sad, or just needed some loving, she would wrap it around herself and whichever one of us needed comfort and rock us in her favorite rocker. (My mother passed on 14 years ago. I don’t know what happened to the shawl.) The shawl I’m making my sister, though it’s knitted instead of crocheted, is very similar to the one my mother had. I hope my sister remembers, and that it brings her comfort.

Daniel turned 2!

My baby turned 2 this week:

And a rare shot of all the children together, they aren’t all smiling, and they aren’t all looking at the camera, but there they all are:
